Dhoni to complete his BCom from St Xaviers college, Ranchi

Fresh from a glorious victory down under, the Indian cricket skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is said to go back to the basics. Dhoni will be heading to school to complete unfinished education. Dhoni is slated to attend college from August, 2008 to complete his BCom degree. He will be studying at the St. Xavier's College in his hometown Ranchi.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni seeked admission under the sports quota in the college. The college has also been supportive to the skipper and is willing to forego the issues of attendence while Dhoni is away from home to play the sport.
Dhoni met the Ranchi University Sports Director -- Jai Kumar Sinha -- in regards of his admission. The Principal of the college -- Nicholas Tete said, "He has expressed a wish to pursue B Com from our college. But he’ll have problems attending classes both owing to his cricket engagements as well as his star status. We’ll need to complete other formalities including the University’s permission"

As for future plans to take the plunge and seal their relationship, the couple does not have any such plans for the near future. Things that more often than not, get us into trouble. It’s written into our DNA. We have to protect our manliness at all costs. If it means bragging about scoring with a porn star you met at a strip club - then so be it. We never reveal the truth that we were actually escorted from the premises for trying to ‘fondle’ said porn star! So what common things do we say and not mean? Let’s investigate.
15. I want to learn a new language. Do we really want to learn a new language? The majority of people struggle to perfect the Queen’s English and the advent of social media sites such as Facecrap has only made it worse. You’re not going to become the voice of your generation simply because you’re talking Italian!

8. “Give me the hottest curry on the menu. NOW!” In a desperate bid to show our manliness, we try to convince ourselves that shoving a vindaloo down our throats is the best way to establish our male dominance. In reality, we’re crying on the inside!
7. “I’m rethinking my career choices.” Every now and again we get a little jaded with our worklife and decide to research the possibility of joining an Alaskan crab-fishing crew. Obviously, we get bored quickly and check to see if anyone posted a comment on our zany “Get Me Out Of This Office” blog.
6. “Keep that up and I’ll phone the police.” We know we won’t call the police. We’d have to repeat the post code ten times to the operator, have to let the fuzz into our home to ask us questions and then watch as they drive away - never to hear from them again. Besides, chavs measure their success through ASBO’s so really, what’s the point?
5. “I’ll pay you back mate, I promise.” To be fair, this is half true. We will, eventually, pay you back. Once we’ve paid off our 50″ LCD-HD telly, our yearly subscription to The Adult Channel, our gym membership and our brand-new Audi S3.
4. “Of course I’m listening to you, dear.” This is usually followed by a few caveman grunts and a nod or two. We’re not really listening but we are paying just enough attention to not get caught watching the football while you describe, in excruciating detail, everything that happened to you today.
3. “I’m not like other guys. I don’t kiss and tell.” This is a loop-hole in the dating system that men have exploited for years. Technically, we don’t kiss and tell. When we’re bragging to our mates about shagging you in the back of the car, the last thing we’d ever want to tell them about is the kissing!
2. “She’s just a friend.” Yeah, she’s just a really hot, big bosomed, nymphomaniac friend. Who are you trying to kid, chief?
1. “Oi! You and me, outside, right now!” In a desperate attempt to solidify our dominance in the presence of another alpha-male we try to bluff our way out of it by calling them out! For the love of God, why?? Chances are he’s going to answer your bluff with one of his own. The best you can hope for is that you’re both regretting your decision and when you get face to face, you have a bit of a shout, a few shoves and maybe beat your chest in that ever-so manly way before your mates mercifully pull you away!

Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre gets choked up as he talks about his retirement Thursday.

And he’s gonna miss it like hell.
But he’s heading for 39, he’s worn down and he just can’t do it anymore.
Two minutes into Favre’s emotional and introspective talk, Favre said, “I’ve given everything I possibly could give to this organization and to the game of football and I don’t think I got anything left to give. That’s it. I know I can play. But I don’t think want to, and that’s really what it comes down to.
“(People might be) fishing for different answers and (wondering), ‘What if,’ and, ‘Will he come back?’ and things like that. What matters is, it’s been a great career for me. It’s over. Hard as it is for me to say, it’s over.”
Retirements are moving. Especially those of decorated athletes. They are our culture’s mythical heroes. Our Achilles. We know the mythology behind them, their flaws and their greatness. They have moved us emotionally – to joy, to anger, to sadness, to sympathy – maybe hundreds of times.
I’ve seen some moving press conferences – Wayne Gretzky’s when he left Edmonton. Cam Neely’s when injuries forced him from the NHL. Carl Yastrzemski’s when he retired from the Red Sox (“People say, ‘Say it ain’t so, Yaz.’ I wish it weren’t” still gets me.). Favre’s was as moving as anyone’s. He started choking up about 90 seconds in. I started going bad about 20 seconds later.
“I will wonder if I made the wrong decision, sure,” he admitted. “On Sundays I will say, ‘I could be doing that, I should be doing that.’ I won’t sit here and say I won’t miss it because I will. I just don’t think I can give anything else aside from the three hours on Sunday, and in football you can’t do that. It’s a total commitment. Up to this point, I have been totally committed.”
So why? Favre went into that at length.
“I think last year and the year before I was tired and (the decision) took a while but I came back,” he said. “Something told me this time not to come back. It took a while once again.
"Once again I wonder if it was the right decision. But I think … it’s a unique situation (that) in 17 years (in the NFL) I had one of the better years of my career. The team had a great year. Everything seems to be going great. The team wants me back. I can still play. That’s a unique situation going into your 18th season. …
"Last year and the year before I questioned whether or not I should come back because I didn’t play at a high enough level. I didn’t question my commitment. I just wondered, ‘Could I play anymore?’ (Now) I know I can play. But this year, the stress part was more noticeable. It’s demanding. It always has been, but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve become much more aware of that. I can play but I’m not up to the challenge. You can’t just show up and play for three hours on Sunday. If you could, there’d be a lot more people doing it.”
Favre said the offseason training wasn’t the motivating factor.
“It was more in-season strain,” he explained. “There were numerous in-season Saturdays where I was here at night watching film before the game. I’ve never done that. (The preparation seemed) never enough for me. Sunday, I’d come home and within hours start watching film of our upcoming opponent. At some point you have to relax and enjoy it. It’s fun to win, but you have to enjoy it and relax a little. That more than anything, that was taking its toll on me."

Asked if the way the 2007 season ended – a loss in the NFC Championship to the Giants after an overtime interception thrown by Favre – left a sour taste, Favre said no.
“I didn’t think about (the end) when I walked off the field,” he said. “Would I have liked to have finished that game and this season differently? Absolutely. But one game, one play, one season doesn’t define me. I’m going out on top. Believe me. I could care less what people think. I’m going out on top. Losses and bad plays and ups and downs to me were all important. (Without them) you never appreciate how tough it is to get there.”
Earlier this week, Favre’s agent, Bus Cook, intimated that the Packers brass didn’t try hard enough to convince Favre to stay. Favre addressed that too.
“I know there’s been comments in the press lately about why I’m leaving, whether or not the Packers did enough, whether or not (GM) Ted Thompson and (coach) Mike McCarthy tried to convince me to stay. None of those things have anything to do with me retiring. And that’s from the heart.
“Believe me, I question my decision,” he added later. “I think it’s the right decision and nothing they could do or say (could) change that. It could make me wonder, but I think that’s part of it. I think it’s the right decision. …

The 7 Essential Habits Of A Successful Fitness Routine

I’m hoping that I’m not the only human being with a seemingly insatiable appetite for self-improvement. For every issue of Maxim sitting on my shelf, I have many more books on how to get rich, talk to women, get fit, lose weight, get ripped six-pack abs, win fights, or learn a new language. I am a self-confessed junkie for personal improvement and growth.
The problem with this pathological obsession for being richer, tougher, smarter, sexier and fitter is that I don’t think any of these self-help books have done me any good. And here’s why. There is no shortcut to success.
The reality is that it will take us our entire lives to become the men we want to be. It’s kind of like Groundhog Day when Bill Murray has to go through despair, compassion, hedonism, love and even death before he can achieve that sense of grace. The writer of the script said he envisioned his character being reborn every day for 10 years. The director thought more. 10,000 years he reckons it took for the character to find contentment.
I’d always felt distinctly average in everything I have done until recently. I’ve found what I consider to be my winning formula to get myself fitter, stronger, and healthier than I have ever been before. In just two short months I’ve lost 20lbs of fat while increasing my muscle mass, bench pressing 180lbs and squatting 270lbs. Now I know these aren’t ground breaking figures, but for me they are. The best thing is that I’m improving every day. It’s not just my fitness that has seen the benefit. I’ve got improved clarity and am able to think more clearly about my goals and how I want to achieve them, and I feel happy all the time. A major improvement on the back end of last year.
So how did I do it? Well, here are the seven habits that I have adopted religiously in my pursuit of physical success.

Habit #7 - Motivation

For me, the hardest part in my pursuit of fitness was giving myself a reason to go to the gym. I’d quite often find myself making excuses for not going. It got so bad that I actually stopped making excuses and just didn’t go at all. After seeing myself in the mirror one evening after a shower, something inside me clicked and I made the decision there and then that I was going to get my fitness back.
The best way to motivate yourself in order to get out of the kind of slump I was in is to make a goal and focus on it 100%. My first goal was to lose fat, improve my cardiovascular fitness and look good in the mirror. Whenever I think about quitting (which is very rarely) I think back to how I looked in the mirror that evening and it keeps me going. You need to find whatever trigger you need to motivate you. It could be how you look, how someone you admire looks or how your girlfriend feels about your body.
Another great way to keep yourself motivated is setting short term goals. When you achieve them, it feels great and keeps you pushing on to achieve more. It could be that you want to increase your squatting by 20% or something as simple as doing 5×100m sprints on the rowing machines with 100m slow rowing between them in 5 minutes. Create achievable short term goals and make them more difficult each week.

Habit #6 - Desire

This habit directly relates to your motivation and can be a motivating trigger itself. For me, I used my desire and passion for self-help to continually strive for improvement. Part of being that man we want to be is having the desire to do something out of the ordinary and this craving is what keeps us going.
I like to think that my desire is strongest when I’m in the gym lifting weights. When I’m struggling to finish that 5th rep of 270lbs on the squat rack, there is nothing I want more in the entire world at that very moment than to complete my set. I purposely block out everything in my life for those few moments and focus all of my desire and energy on squeezing out one last rep.
Your desire comes back to what motivates you to workout in the first place. Whether you want to lose weight or build strength, it’s quite simply a case of how badly you want it. I’m quite lucky in that I’m very much an all-or-nothing kind of guy and so I give 110% and never give up until I complete the goals I set myself at the beginning of the workout. You need to man up and be strong. Not just physically, but when your body is tired and you feel like finishing 1 rep shy of the set you need the mental strength to force another one out.
Habit #5 - Reflection

This is a very powerful habit that is often overlooked and sometimes even laughed at but when used correctly, it can fuel both your desire and your motivation to succeed. It involves reflection throughout the day on the workout you’ve done. If you dominated on the deadlift and set a new record for yourself, you should hold on to that for the rest of the day. How could you improve on it? Was your technique flawless? Not only will it help you to better yourself next time you perform the lift, but thinking about a good working makes you feel great. The endorphins are still flowing and you’re naturally on a high. There’s no bigger incentive to head back to the gym than when it makes you feel good. Arnold Schwarzenegger famously once compared working out to ‘coming’ and let’s face it, if we all felt like that after a workout maybe we’d get a physique like he had!
Another source of reflection is the mirror. The mirror doesn’t lie and is a terrific way of judging your progress. Being able to see a slight hint of six-pack after years of a beer belly can be extremely motivating to force you to burn off that stubborn bit of remaining fat. I like to use the mirror as a way of determining my goals too. Once I’d cut my body fat and could see my abs, I noticed my shoulders were underdeveloped and immediately began to focus on body dips and standing shoulder press exercises. The mirror is a weapon in your arsenal, so use it.
Habit #4 - Resting

Rest is essential to allow our muscles to repair and grow, and it gives you time to focus on your state of mind too. One of the biggest mistakes I made in earlier years was not giving my muscles time to recover before working out again. The result was that I was unable to lift to the maximum of my ability in the gym because my muscles were still sore and weak. This obviously resulted in a strength plateau which, at the time, I assumed was down to my routine and simply switched the exercises. Needless to say that didn’t work and I have now come to embrace rest as a very valuable part of a successful fitness routine.
Resting doesn’t mean just sitting around doing nothing though. I like to use rest time to challenge my mind through creative writing or memory exercises. In addition to that, I use visualisation to focus on my muscles development. Actually meditating on the muscles and tissues themselves and visualise them healing and growing. It works really well, especially when done during a deep tissue massage. You may need to smooth-talk your girlfriend into that though!
Habit #3 - Eating

When I was a teenager, I was extremely active and I could eat whatever I wanted without putting on a single pound. These days, however, it’s a whole different ball game and I do watch what I eat. I’ve never been a big advocate of calorie counting because preparing food is a big enough chore without having to get all mathematically as well! Instead, I try to focus on eating natural, healthy foods such as fish, chicken, eggs, wholemeal bread/rice/pasta. In fact, I’d say that 90% of my meals consist of at least one of those foods.
Now, I’m fairly lucky because I don’t really need much variety in my food to keep me satisfied. I only eat to provide my body with the necessary fuel to repair and build my muscles. This suits me fine because I hate planning ahead anyway. However, if you do need variety then I suggest setting up a weekly meal plan. It’s a bit of a pain to plan out your food consumption in this way but in the long term you’ll benefit exponentially from it.
One thing I always know about with each meal however is the amount of protein I’m consuming. I try to get in about 30-40g per meal x 5-6 meals each day. It’s the only thing I obsess over when preparing food and I can be a bloody nightmare about it! As a general rule of thumb, you should be aiming to consume 1g of protein per lb of body weight. Therefore, if you weigh 200lbs, you would try to get 200g of protein each day. Personally, I try to get it through all natural sources such as egg, chicken, tuna, beef because protein powders cost a fortune when you think how many tins of tuna you could get for the same price (there is approx. 30g of protein per 130g drained tuna).
Habit #2 - Progression

I got into a nasty habit early in my fitness routines in which I’d bench and squat the exact same amount of weight for weeks and sometimes even months. Initially, my muscles got sore and I had to recover before working out again but over time, my body adapted and the weight just wasn’t challenging my muscles anymore which meant they never got bigger or stronger.
I never made the correlation between the lack of growth and lifting the same weight week-in and week-out. It’s actually blindingly obvious that if you want to get bigger and stronger, your workouts need to progress. This is one of the most useful habits I have ever adopted because my body is now in a constant state of change. I add weight to my workouts session to session and have seen a massive improvement in strength and size as a direct result. It also makes it more difficult for my muscles to plateau because I am constantly stressing them with an increased load.
Just like anything in life, you need to progress to achieve more and this is no exception. If you wanted to earn more money at work, you’d progress to a higher position with more responsibility. If you want to lose weight or build muscle you need to progress to more challenging cardio workouts or heavier weights. Habit #1 - Consistency

This is the single most important habit of any workout routine and one that many people struggle to form. At this time of year, hundreds of thousands of people have probably quit, or just about to quit, their fitness routine. It starts as a new years resolution but never really becomes a habit, and so they quit.
The best way to remain consistent is to just go to the gym. Don’t waste time thinking about reasons to go or not to go, just go! And when you get there, focus all of your energy on your goals. I am so engrossed in my gym habit now that if I am unable to make it, it consumes me with guilt and stress. Yesterday I lost my gym card to get in and, because I was in the habit of going at 10.30 every day, I became agitated, frustrated and annoyed that I couldn’t go. In the end I went anyway and talked my way in by blaming my girlfriend for losing it! The point is, if you go to the gym (or workout at home) consistently at the same time every day for a long enough period of time it will become a habit. You won’t even need to think about it anymore and that’s the point.
Of course being consistent doesn’t just apply to going to the gym. You need to be consistent with all your other habits if you hope to succeed. For me, being consistent in cutting out junk food, working out at the same time 4-5x per week, progressing my workouts, motivating myself, resting and reflecting has fueled my desire and I could never go back to the sedentary lifestyle.

Five Signs She Doesn’t Like You (And Will Break Your Heart)

Did you know that 55% of the impression we get from someone is communicated through their body language? 38% is from the tone, speed and inflection of their voice, and a tiny 7% is from what they’re actually saying! (This doesn’t mean you can talk about your love of tuna fish all night!)
The topic of body language is a vast subject which would need at least it’s own article to even scratch the surface so, for purposes of brevity, we’ll keep things simple for now.
Reading Her Body Language
Body language consists of two basic types of gestures. Open gestures and closed gestures. In their most basic form, open gestures are displayed when women are either interesting in, and attracted to the person presented to her. Closed gestures are displayed when she is not.
Being able to read these signs and use them to your advantage will not only make you more successful with women, it will also allow you to cut your losses and not waste your time on women who simply aren’t interested. Today we’ll be looking at the closed gestures you will see during your dating life. These are body language signs which mean she doesn’t really like you and will break your heart if you get too attached. I find it best in situations where I see at least two closed gestures being displayed to simply cut my losses and walk away. Remember, there are plenty of fish in the sea!
The Five Closed Body Language Gestures
Gesture 1 – The Roll
If you’ve struck up conversation, and your trying your best lines to impress her, look at her eyes. If she rolls her eyes at the things you say, she is showing embarrassment at your presence and is displaying to everyone else that she’s just not interested. Walk away. You don’t have much of a chance with this girl.
Gesture 2 – The X Zone
If she has her arms crossed, she’s not open to you and what you have to offer her. It’s a tell-tale sign that she is either nervous, uncomfortable, agitated or she simply doesn’t like you. Try changing your strategy and see if her body language becomes more relaxed and open.
Gesture 3 – The Poker Hand
This is when she plays her cards close to her chest (just like a poker player) and doesn’t show you her wrists, palms or the inside of her arms. She’s very guarded and doesn’t feel comfortable with you. Change tactic and see if she warms to you, if not then fold your hand (pun intended!).
Gesture 4 – (Reverse) Leaning Tower of Love
If she’s leaning away from you or her posture is stiff, it’s a sure-fire sign that she wants out of the situation and you’re wasting your time. The night is young and there are many women who’d be more receptive to your advances.
Gesture 5 – The Statue
This is kind of a no-brainer, however you wouldn’t believe the number of guys that do not pick up on this gesture! If she’s sitting with her head resting in her hand with downcast eyes she is bored and not interested in anything you have to say. Politely make your excuses and walk away with your head held high.
Obviously, when you’re out in the dating battlefield these gestures are only guidelines and you should follow your gut instinct wherever possible. If you notice her using one of these gestures, don’t panic and run for the door! If her arms and crossed and her back is stiff she might just be cold, or her friends are all hooking up with guys and she feels left out. If you want to talk to her, then go ahead. Be friendly and smile.
I’d suggest using the rule of four here. If she displays four of the five gestures I’ve mentioned then don’t bother. Any less then it’s down to your social skills and charm to turn it around and get her interested in you.

Ahmadinejad: US should leave Iraq

BAGHDAD -- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Monday dismissed U.S. accusations that his country is training extremists and demanded that the Americans withdraw from Iraq.

Speaking in a nearly hour-long news conference at the end of an unprecedented visit to Iraq, Ahmadinejad said the U.S. allegations -- that Iran is training Shiite militants who target American troops and Muslim rivals -- don't matter to the Iranians.
"Of course American officials make such remarks and such statements, and we do not care ... because they make statements on the basis of erroneous information," said the hard-line Iranian leader, who smiled through much of the session. "We cannot count on what they say."
He said the foreign presence in Iraq was an "insult to the regional nations and a humiliation."
Ahmadinejad is the first Iranian president to visit Iraq, and his two-day trip highlighted one of the unintended consequences for Washington after the 2003 U.S.-led invasion of the Iraq that ousted Saddam Hussein from power.
Under Saddam, a Sunni who once led an eight-year war against Iran, the two countries were bitter enemies, but Iraq's new Shiite-dominated government has deep ties to Iran's cleric-led Islamic republic.
Ahmadinejad was warmly received by Iraqi President Jabal Talabani, a Sunni Kurd, and other Iraqi leaders. He said Tehran and Baghdad are "brotherly" nations who share many beliefs and values.
"Of course, dictators and foreigners have tried to tarnish and undermine the emotional relations between the two states," he said.
After meeting Sunday with Talabani, who told the Iranian leader to call him "Uncle Jalal," Ahmadinejad drove through the U.S.-controlled Green Zone to visit Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, a fellow Shiite, at his Cabinet offices.
The sprawling Green Zone contains the core of the U.S. diplomatic mission to Iraq -- including a massive new embassy -- and is heavily protected against occasional rocket barrages. American officials have accused Iran of backing Shiite extremists behind such attacks.
"The presence of foreigners in the region has been to the detriment of the nations of the region," Ahmadinejad said. "It is nothing but a humiliation to the regional nations.
"Their only achievements are that regional nations further dislike them, it adds to the regional nations' hatred. No one likes them."
Pressed by a reporter how he knows the Iraqis don't like the U.S., Ahmadinejad said that the "Iraqi people have been anti-colonialist and anti-occupation in the course of their history."
"If you go to the streets and talk to ordinary Iraqi people, you will be able to realize the true nature of such a claim," he said.
Still, the Iraqis are precariously balanced between U.S. and Iran, with government officials saying in recent weeks that they don't want the country torn apart in a power struggle between the two sides.
About 1,000 protesters in a Sunni-dominated neighborhood in Baghdad protested his visit Monday, a day after scattered demonstrations greeted his arrival. "Your mortars preceded your visit," one placard read.

Race, one of the hottest films this season, is around three weeks away from its release. Still, its producers TIPS and composer Pritam are leaving no stones unturned to ensure that the film not just stays in news but also take one of the biggest ever openings at the Box Office.To keep the film hot in circulation and add on to the immense hype that this action/thriller has been generating, the makers have decided to add on a new song in Race. The song is special since it features Saif Ali Khan and now hot-n-happening Katrina Kaif who was the only leading lady to have enjoyed a cent per cent record last year (Namastey London, Apne, Partner and Welcome). Moreover, the title of the song is nothing less than inviting as it reads - 'Sexy Lady'. As per the film's producer Ramesh Taurani (of TIPS), the song was added as it was found to be a good replacement for Mujhpe To Jaado, which was yet to be shot. "We are thrilled with the great response to the title song Race Sanson Ki, Pehli Nazar Mein and Zara Zara Touch Me. We wanted to keep the momentum going. When Pritam made us hear the tune of Sexy Lady, we knew that this was the song for the film," confirmed Ramesh Taurani. Pritam said: 'Mujhpe To Jadoo was anyways waiting to be picturized. Since Abbas-Mustan also felt that Sexy Lady could be a good replacement, everyone was in consensus with the decision. "We are quite happy with the way Race is leading up to its March 21 release. The songs are doing quite well and are leading the charts all over. We would begin unleashing the talkie promos early March. They would be a mix of action and drama which forms the USP of the film," said Taurani.Meanwhile shooting of Sexy Lady is currently on and would be wrapped up in quick time so that the song is on air before the release of the film. Moreover, there won't be much wait for the new edition of the music album of Race to arrive too. The wedding of bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt and wife Manyata as per Hindu rites may be invalid if she has not converted to Hinduism before the marriage on February 11."According to the Hindu Marriage Act, if the couple are Hindus at the time of marriage, only then is the marriage valid under the Act," noted lawyer Mrunalini Deshmukh said."Even though Sanjay and Manyata have filed a joint declaration with South Goa's registration authorities seeking withdrawal of their marriage declaration, they will be husband and wife if their marriage as per the Hindu Marriage Act is valid," Deskhmukh said.But if Manyata has not converted before the marriage rites, then either party can challenge the marriage at the time of annulment, as it is an invalid marriage.The joint declaration filed by the couple before South Goa's Salcette Sub registrar's office states that they do not desire to solemnise their marriage under the Portuguese Civil Code, 1867. Sanjay and Manyata had filed a declaration before Salcette Sub Registrar Chandrakant Pissurlekar on Februaryseven. San Antonio earns 7th straight win with 97-94 victory over Dallas

SAN ANTONIO - Against a team that has a new look and new marquee player, the San Antonio Spurs kept up their winning ways Thursday by sticking to basics — namely, their own franchise player.
Tim Duncan, called the “backbone” of the team by coach Gregg Popovich, led the Spurs with 31 points and 15 rebounds in a 97-94 victory over the made-over Dallas Mavericks on Thursday night.
“Offense, the ball goes through him. On defense, he’s our defender, our rebounder,” Popovich said. “Everybody rotates off him. He’s just really special. We don’t get anything done without him.”

It was the Spurs’ seventh straight win and put them a game ahead of New Orleans in a tight Southwest Division, where Dallas is third and only 2½ games separates San Antonio from fourth-place Houston.
The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Mavericks and dropped them to 3-2 since acquiring guard Jason Kidd from New Jersey.
“I thought we had some good looks, maybe a foul here or there,” said Kidd, who had 10 assists and seven points. “But at the end of the game we had our chances.”
Manu Ginobili added 17 points for San Antonio and Michael Finley had 16.
Dirk Nowitzki scored 28 points for the Mavericks. Josh Howard and reserve Brandon Bass each added 16.
“Every time we come down here it’s a highly contested game,” Dallas coach Avery Johnson said. “It’s a big time rivalry. Hopefully next time when we play ... we can finish with one more point.”
The Mavericks will get their chance next month, when they host the Spurs.
“This game didn’t mean much, we’ll see them again,” Dallas guard Jason Terry said. “We’re still a work in progress.”
The Spurs were up by one, 73-72, heading into the fourth quarter. With the game tied at 94, Erick Dampier fouled Duncan, who sank both shots from the line to put San Antonio up 96-94 with 34.5 seconds to go.
Nowitzki missed two shots with less than 30 seconds on the clock, and Terry’s shot was blocked by Bruce Bowen with 3.9 seconds left. The Spurs got the ball back with 3.3 seconds to go, and Dampier fouled Finley with 0.4 left. Finley hit the first of two from the line.
“The effort was huge for both sides,” Ginobili said. “When you play a game like this, you know the effort is going to be there.”
Kidd came out for the last 30 seconds, but said he supported the decision.
“They’ve been together down the stretch,” Kidd said. “I understand what play they’re looking for, so I’m over here cheering for my guys to knock down a 2 or a 3.”
The game was tied four times in the fourth quarter as the teams traded baskets and neither took a lead of more than five points in the period.
Bowen added 14 points for the Spurs and Tony Parker had 10.
After coming out of halftime tied at 47 and staying close more than 5 minutes into the third quarter, each team took turns holding the momentum.
The Mavericks went up by 10 after a 16-4 run that included a 3 from a pumped Nowitzki off a feed from Kidd and ended with a goaltending call against Robert Horry that gave Terry a basket and put Dallas up 67-57 with 3:44 to play.
But the Spurs answered with a 13-1 burst, including two free throws thanks to technicals called on Terry and Johnson in an increasingly testy atmosphere. Finley scored nine points in the surge that gave San Antonio a 70-68 lead with 1:20 to go.
Ime Udoka’s last-second corner 3 put the Spurs up 73-72 with one period to play.

Presidential candidate Ralph Nader announced Thursday morning that he has chosen former San Francisco Supervisor Matt Gonzalez as his running mate. The Texas-born Gonzalez ran for mayor of San Francisco as a Green Party candidate in 2003 but lost to Gavin Newsom.

His running mate in 2004 was Peter Camejo
Gonzalez was the president of the board.
As a consolidated city-county, the only such municipality in California, San Francisco does not have a traditional city council.
Instead, the county board of supervisors acts as the legislative branch of government, while the mayor of the city acts as the executive branch.
Gonzalez has been the only San Francisco politician who has mounted a serious challenge to Newsom.
According to the Gonzalez Web site, he lost the 2003 mayoral race 53 percent to 47 percent. 133,546 people voted for Newsom while 119,329 voted for Gonzalez.
Gonzalez has been largely inactive in city politics since then.

Nader Criticizes Top Contenders In Announcement

Nader announced his bid for the White House on Meet The Press.
Nader criticized the top contenders as too close to big business and dismissing the possibility that his third-party candidacy could tip the election to Republicans.
The longtime consumer advocate is still loathed by many Democrats who accuse him of costing Al Gore the 2000 election.
Nader said most people are disenchanted with the Democratic and Republican parties due to a prolonged Iraq war and a shaky economy.
He also blamed tax and other corporate-friendly policies under the Bush administration that he said have left many lower- and middle-class people in debt.
"You take that framework of people feeling locked out, shut out, marginalized, disrespected," he said. "You go from Iraq, to Palestine/Israel, from Enron to Wall Street, from Katrina to the bungling of the Bush administration, to the complicity of the Democrats in not stopping him on the war, stopping him on the tax
In a later interview with The Associated Press, he rejected the notion of himself as a spoiler candidate, saying the electorate will not vote for a "pro-war John McCain." He also predicted his campaign would do better than in 2004, when he won just 0.3 percent of the vote as an independent.
"This time we're ready for them," said Nader of the Democratic Party lawsuits that kept him off the ballot in some states.
Democratic candidates Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton quickly sought to portray Nader's announcement as having little impact.
"Obviously, it's not helpful to whomever our Democratic nominee is. But it's a free country," said Clinton, who called Nader's announcement a "passing fancy."
Obama dismissed Nader as a perennial presidential campaigner. "He thought that there was no difference between Al Gore and George Bush and eight years later I think people realize that Ralph did not know what he was talking about," Obama added.
Republican Mike Huckabee welcomed Nader into the race.
"I think it always would probably pull votes away from the Democrats, not the Republicans," the former Arkansas governor said on CNN.
Nader said Obama's and Clinton's lukewarm response was not surprising given that both political parties typically treat third-party candidates as "second-class citizens." Nader said he will decide in the coming days whether to run as an independent, Green Party candidate or in some other third party.
Pointing a finger at Republicans, he described McCain as a candidate for "perpetual war" and said he welcomed the support of Republican conservatives "who don't like the war in Iraq, who don't like taxpayer dollars wasted, and who don't like the Patriot Act and who treasure their rights of privacy."
"If the Democrats can't landslide the Republicans this year, they ought to just wrap up," Nader added

One of Sen. Barack Obama’s surest applause lines comes about halfway into his standard stump speech. It goes like this:
“They whisper to me. They say, ‘Barack, I’m a Republican, but I support you.’ And I say, ‘Thank you. Why are we whispering?’”
If the latest polling data are to be believed, those Republicans aren’t whispering in Texas, where 195 of the 228 delegates the state will send to the Democratic National Convention will be chosen in a primary and caucuses Tuesday.

As many as a tenth of the Texans voting in the Democratic contests could be Republicans, and overwhelmingly they favor Obama, a first-term senator from Illinois, the polls show.
“I ran for Republican precinct chair. I went to the Republican state convention,” said one of them, Donald Rau of Austin, who has already voted in early balloting. “In this election, I voted for Barack Obama.”
GOP support ‘no longer surprising’A poll released this week by SurveyUSA of Verona, N.J., indicated that registered Republicans would make up 9 percent of Democratic primary voters next week. Michael Baselice, head of Baselice and Associates, a Texas polling firm, said that was in line with what his company was finding.
A bloc that large could make a significant difference for Obama, who holds a large lead over Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York among Texas Republicans, especially in a close race. Polls this week were showing a dead heat in Texas as Obama began pulling even with Clinton.
To be sure, the Clinton campaign is drawing some first-time support of its own among Republicans.
“I’m a Republican. I’ve been a Republican since I can remember,” said Trey Caliva of Lubbock. But “whenever I vote for an executive office, I have to vote for the best person that does the job. And for me that’s Hillary Clinton.”
But by large margins, more Republicans say they are backing Obama.
American Research Group found this week that as Obama has edged ahead among Democrats, at 47 percent to 46 percent, he is drawing the support of more than 70 percent of Republicans who said they were likely to vote in the Democratic primary. The survey, which questioned 600 likely primary voters Saturday and Sunday, reported a margin of sampling error of 4 percentage points.
A survey released Tuesday by Public Policy Polling found that while Clinton led Obama by 52 percent to 44 percent among likely primary voters, Republicans who said they would vote in the primary favored Obama by 76 percent to 20 percent. The survey, which questioned 434 likely Democratic primary voters Saturday through Monday, reported a 4.7-point margin of error.

Google Gives All SF Homeless Free Voicemail

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Google has made an announcement that could help hundreds of homeless people in San Francisco get back on their feet.
Every single homeless person in the city will be given a life-long phone number and voicemail, should they choose to accept it, NBC11's Lisa Bernard said.

Google is partnering with San Francisco to provide the service to homeless individuals and to shelters and agencies so they can distribute the numbers to their clients.
The announcement was made at a Project Homeless Connect event at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium Wednesday.
A homeless person will be able to call in for his or her messages from any phone.
The move by the city and the company would allow someone to be able to fill out a job application, which asks for a call back number.
It will allow clinics to share test results.
Mayor Gavin Newsom and Google said they want to empower people.
"How do you communicate as a homeless individual? " Newsom asked. "How do you expect your life to turn around if you can't even get information or if someone can't even get in touch with you?"
"It just seems exactly like any other voice mail," said Craig Walker, senior project manager of Google. "There's no stigma attached to it that 'hey this is a temporary thing' or 'this is an 800 number.' It's really just a local number owned by the user."
One man who used to be homeless said the right message can raise the spirit.
"Having your family, friends and loved ones being able to say 'here I'm thinking about you, I love you, I want you to know you're mine, and I miss you,' can have a monumental change in one's behavior."
"Providing phone and messaging capabilities and access to vital health care is an extraordinary step forward in the city's commitment to a comprehensive approach to addressing the needs of this vulnerable community," Newsom said.
"We're firm believers in the power of technology to improve the daily lives of individuals and communities as a whole, and we recognize that access to phone and voicemail services is one way that Google can help San Francisco's homeless stay connected with family, friends, social workers, health care providers, and potential employers," Walker said.
Walker said the program was ready to start right away.

The outsourcing debate rages on and this time, India Inc which is facing the heat from US Presidential candidates especially Democrat hopeful Barack Obama who has blamed Indians for the rising unemployment in the country. Corporate India in retaliation has launched a counter-offensive saying India is gifting jobs, not stealing them.An image of Barack Obama echoeing what many of his voters feel - the anti-outsourcing rhetoric - has not surprisingly upset India Inc. But its not something they're going to take lying down.In a counter-offensive, a full-page advertisement published in an American newspaper provides elaborate accounts of how India is "gifting" thousands of jobs to Americans and not "stealing" them.This is not how Obama would have it seem. He's been saying quite the opposite. Sample this excerpt from a Barack Obama speech at a rally in Ohio only two days ago, telling his voters that their jobs have been stolen, taken away by offshore companies that set up in places like China and India:Obama said: "We're here because there are workers in Youngstown, Ohio, who've watched job after job after job disappear because of bad trade deals....They need us to end those tax breaks that go to companies that ship jobs overseas."In fact, Obama has even vowed to curb offshoring by introducing a tax scheme that will reward American firms that do not ship jobs overseas. Actress Sushmita Sen, who dons the director's hat for an upcoming film about Rani Laxmi Bai, says it was destiny which made her a filmmaker.
Jhansi Ki Rani will celebrate the life of the valiant Indian queen who fought British colonialists during the first war of independence 150 years ago.
Sen, also the film's producer, will be playing the queen's role.
"Me directing a film, it's actually destiny," Sen told reporters in Mumbai on Friday. "I was never meant to direct (the film)… it just so happens that I will be directing it."
Laxmi Bai, the gutsy queen of Jhansi often represented in history books as a sword-wielding, horse-riding warrior, challenged the British after they refused to recognise her adopted child as the heir to the throne. Her revolt quickly became a key focus of the 1857 mutiny against the colonial rulers started by a handful of Indian soldiers.
Sen said she was optimistic about acting, directing and producing a film at the same time.
"It's going to be a very formidable task but I hope it will turn out just fine," the actress said.

Shah Rukh to play 'Spiderman' for son

After getting six-pack abs to please his son, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has another dream for the boy. He wants to do an Indian version of the Spiderman as a gift to Aryan who is a big FX and SRK fan.And the director chosen to put together what is arguably the most expensive movie ever made in Bollywood is Anubhav Sinha. The superstar is gung ho about the project. The two are writing the script.Though Sinha is not willing to reveal more details about SRK's "superhero" project, the film will require a 12-year-old boy to co-star with the actor. At the moment, the hunt is on for the boy, who will get the opportunity to join Shah Rukh's fantasy of donning a cape and flying across the sky at supersonic speed.The director, credited with action movies Dus and Cash, is ready to take on the biggest challenge of his career."I'm surprised at how accessible Shah Rukh is for me. Indian speedster Ishant Sharma has been found guilty of a level one offence under 1.6 of the ICC Code of Conduct and has been fined 15 percent of his match fee for gesticulating towards the pavilion after dismissing Australia's Andrew Symonds.

Following the decision of the Match Referee - Jeff Crowe - the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) maintained that lshant was provoked into acting, and has asked the referee to tell the Aussies to avoid provoking players with their behavior. It is also learnt that Team India's management has written a letter to the match referee appealing for curb on sledging.

However when TIMES NOW caught up with the BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla, he said such issues should be resolved on the ground and he saw no reason why the BCCI should get involved.

"Well, so far BCCI has not lodged any protest I can tell you. But initially, after the past controversy it had been decided that these issues must be resolved at the grounds only. So I think the team management and the match referee and the players among themselves could resolve this problem. If the decision is on the basis of a fair judgement and fair hearing, I don't see why the BCCI should get into it. I think certain things must be left to the wisdom of the Match Referee," said Shukla.

The ODI at Sydney between India vs Australia saw yet another controversy involving Andrew Symonds. In the Australian innings of 317, the Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds made a quick fire 59. Just when he was looking dangerous he was dismissed by Indian rising star Ishant Sharma as Symonds was foxed by a slower delivery.

In a very unsportsmanlike behaviour, Symonds first reacted to his dismissal after which Ishant Sharma retaliated by showing Symonds his way back to the pavilion.

The Australian captain Ricky Ponting who was at the non-striker's end was believed to have told the umpire to talk to Team India regarding Ishant's gesture. Umpire Daryl Harper was seen doing just that. Soon, Darly Harper was seen having a word with M S Dhoni and his men.

Level 1.6 of the ICC Code of Conduct states that "Pointing or gesturing towards the pavilion in an aggressive manner by a bowler or another member of a fielding side on the dismissal of a batsman" is an offence.

TIMES NOW has learnt that Team India's Management has written a letter to match referee Jeff Crowe appealing for curb on sledging. Sources say the team is dissappointed that the Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds was let off without any action.

Meanwhile the Australian skipper Ricky Ponting has tried to downplay the entire incident saying, "Probably there is something in the water (here, Sydney), but one should not make too much of these altercations." Dhoni, however, has tried to stay away from commenting on the issue saying that Symonds or Ishant knows the best, but added that he had asked Ishant to cool down.

Are the Aussies playing dirty again?

There's something about Sydney that brings out the worst in Andrew Symonds - the senior pro was seen having a go at the new kid on the block Ishant Sharma mouthing filthy expletives. Ishant, looking slightly taken aback, had reason to feel aggrieved as all he did was get Symonds out.

His mate on the other end, the Aussie captain Ricky Ponting perhaps realising that Symonds was in the wrong, quickly jumped in to retrieve the situation. Incredibly, he went up to the umpires and asked them to control poor Ishant.

Indian cricket fans cannot be blamed for finding all this a familiar sight. It was just like this a month ago at the same venue - the Sydney Oval. At that time, it was Harbhajan; now it is Ishant Sharma, and both are involved in an incident with Symonds.

It is interesting how the Aussies target the one player who they have the most to fear from on the field. Once again, it is Ponting who gets the umpires on the field to issue a warning.

Once again the Aussies succeed in getting players in trouble with the referee - earlier it was Mike Denesse this time it is Jeff Crowe. Harbhajan was slapped with a serious charge of racism and now Ishant has been targeted by the match referee this time for gesturing towards the pavilion.

The latest incident promises to raise as much of a stink as the ugly Symonds-Harbhajan exchange did during the tests, and it raises some big questions too:

An award is as good as it's juryOne could judge a film only if one is equipped to understand the craft. Oscars have a certain technical standard when it comes to the jury. It's the Academy awarding the industry; peers judging their own contemporaries. Oscars may not be the most authentic one every time yet their strike rate is pretty high. A small film like Good Night, and Good Luck qualified for nominations in six categories including Best Motion Picture only because the Academy recognises the value and talent seeded in such films. Though Academy's discretion is not unquestionable at times. It's an old story how Citizen Kane now taught in film schools, never won an Oscar for Best Picture or Direction. Yet, Academy won't award a film that doesn't understand its craft. That's precisely why one can't ignore the Oscars. Filmmakers who look for real recognition will always value Oscars. Why do you think Aamir Khan doesn't attend any of our home awards but goes for Oscars? Un-fortunately for a nation as glamour struck as India the only thing that charms the majority about the Oscars is their American stamp.Our awards are only a mockeryTake any popular film award in India, it's headed by a jury that's completely film illiterate and absolutely star smitten. Our judges are such madcaps that they completely succumb to the populist cinema and box office success instead of acknowledging talent.If I ask someone today how they rate a Rajendar Kumar or a Manoj Kumar as an actor, he or she would laugh. But for our moms or grand moms these Kumars were stars. So they deserved to be nominated and awarded. Similarly the coming generations will laugh at those who you or I think are our favorite stars. Our current awards are completely stardom driven.They should rather be called blockbuster awards not film awards!Look at Raja Hindustani, which not just won the Best Film award at Filmfares but also the Best Original Screenplay award when everyone knew it was a copy of our own Jab Jab Phool Khiley! Who are we fooling at our awards?The year Hazaar Khwaishein Aisi came, Black was declared the Best Film not just in the Popular Awards category but the Critic's Choice as well. Hazaar Khwaishein Aisi wasn't even considered worthy enough of being mentioned. Aziz Mirza and Manisha Kiorala, the revered Jury members rather chose Black which was a copy of The Miracle Worker in a hammy sort of way. That's why I say these are anything but film awards!Bollywood is full of arrogant empty headsBollywood at its best is only a variety entertainment programme production industry. Only money and clout speak. Talent and potential get lost in the barrage of popular cinema. Only those who can afford to build gaudy, cheap bungalows that resemble a cheap movie set, get to call the shots in this industry. In our industry's belief system the biggest hit becomes the best. Look at Om Shanti Om. It's a copy of Karz which in itself was a copy of Reincarnation of Peter Proud. We are making copies of copies then one day we turn around to say don't call us Bollywood, that smacks of subservience to Hollywood. Really! I say we deserve to be called Bollywood only.Our own racism causes India's Oscars failureWe are too supercilious to choose a good, small film in front of a big, second rate film. Why do we have to debate only between a Paheli or a Black? In one word, our industry is racist. This north Indian racism is undermining our talent. Why can't we look beyond? Although the year we decided to look beyond, we chose Jeans. I think we have completely lost it. FFI broke my heartThe Film Fedration of India jury can only choose from the films already short-listed by the FFI. Being a jury member this time, the first thing that I asked was why didn't we have a single Malayalam film short-listed? I was told that those film directors don't have enough money to get their films subtitled. Now isn't that both ridiculous and appalling? Why can't FFI get their films subtitled? We ourselves disrespect our talent. Our Oscars tally would have looked so much better only if we had acknowledged Ray's talent. I have been here for last 25 years and I know people who laugh at Ray. We are repeating our mistake and ignoring the talent of such heavyweights like Adoor Gopalakrishnan. Time we rewarded our own small filmsThere's no dearth of good independent cinema in India, cinema that doesn't always cave into the irrational pressures of populist taste and the economy of blockbusters. Just that, these films are not able to rub shoulders with megastarrrer, multi-crore budget films and are forced to pale into insignificance due to lack of adequate recognition.I, with like minded fellow filmmakers, am spearheading a movement to re-define excellence in cinema. As part of a group called Indian Independent Filmakers, we are planning to start our own film festival and awards that will appreciate and reward films which dare to step out of the hackneyed formulae that Bollywood seems to have mastered. Small or big won't be a cirtierion, good cinema will be the bottomline.We will have a truly international jury comprising of filmmakers from all over the world. For once I am sure I would be able to say with confidence " May the best film win"!

MP bans Jodhaa Akbar

The woes for Ashutosh Gowarikar's magnum opus Jodhaa Akbar seem to be unending. Now it's the turn of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Madhya Pradesh (MP), who have suspended the screening of the film. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the film has been suspended fearing a law and order problem in the central state. If that wasn't enough, some theatres in Punjab and Bihar have also banned the film from being screened and a low-intensity blast was reported outside a Mumbai theatre, which was screening the film. Meanwhile, UTV has sent out a press release stating, "We have today moved to the Madhya Pradesh (MP) High Court to lift the suspension on the screening of Jodhaa Akbar and we will take the matter to the Supreme Court if need be."The entire film industry, including producers, distributors and exhibitors are up in arms against this order of the State Government. The censor board has passed Jodhaa Akbar without any cuts and the onus is now on the respective authorities to ensure the film is screened across the country without disruption. We will fight this till the end." The decision of the court will decide the fate of the film in MP.

Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss has reignited the smoking controversy, once again taking a dig at Shahrukh Khan saying icons who passed off smoking on screens as "artistic liberty" should take a leaf out of Aamir Khan's book on how to use the artistic tool. Ramadoss has rubbed many the wrong way and made many a controversial comment but this time he was all praises for none other than veteran actor Aamir Khan for his role in 'Taaren Zameen Par' where he plays an art teacher who brings a dyslexic boy out of his shell with the insight from his own experiences as a child.The Health Minister said, "Look at 'Taare Zammen Par' - tha is what creative liberty should do... Creative liberty should be used to improve society and not kill mankind." It was clearly a compliment to Aamir but an apparent attack on another actor super star, Shahrukh, whom the minister had not so long ago slammed for depicting smoking in his films.King Khan then took on the Health Minister, defending the light up on screen saying it was their creative liberty of artistes. "I think there should be a huge amount of creative freedom that should be allowed in cinema and arts and one should not go around and picking on small little things - because that's just cinema and make believe and that should be allowed, we should not have huge censorship on that," Khan had said.If one may recall, recently Ramadoss had even pulled up the actor for smoking in the stands while watching a 20:20 cricket match in Mumbai.The war of words between the minister - a strong supporter of the anti-tobaco lobby - and an actor who supports creative liberty shows no signs of stubbing out.

Violent protests rocked Serb-dominated northern Kosovo on Friday, as mobs chanting ''Kosovo is ours!'' hurled stones, bottles and firecrackers at UN police guarding a bridge that divides Serbs from ethnic Albanians.

The scenes evoked memories of the carnage unleashed by former Serb autocrat Slobodan Milosevic the last time Kosovo tried to break away from Serbia, which considers the territory its ancestral homeland.

There were disturbing signs the riots in Belgrade, Serbia, and in Mitrovica have the blessing of nationalists in the Serbian government. The government hopes somehow to undo the loss of the beloved province, the site of an epic battle between Serbs and Turks in 1389.

Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica's authorities have repeatedly vowed to reclaim the land, despite US and other Western recognition of Kosovo's statehood.

Some hard-line government ministers have praised the violent protests as ''legitimate'' - and in line with government policies of retaining control over Serb-populated areas.

In Washington, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said it was time for Serbs to accept that Kosovo is no longer theirs. She also suggested it was time to drop centuries of grievance and sentimentality in the Balkans.

Serbian President Boris Tadic called an emergency meeting of the National Security Council and said the rioting that engulfed the capital must ''never happen again.''

Kosovo's ethnic Albanian leaders declared independence from Serbia on Sunday. The province, which is 90 per cent ethnic Albanian, has not been under Serbia's control since 1999, when NATO launched airstrikes to halt a Serbian crackdown on ethnic Albanian separatists. A UN mission has governed Kosovo since.

The US ambassador to Serbia demanded that authorities do more to guarantee the safety of foreign diplomatic missions after nationalists in Belgrade set fire to the US Embassy in riots on Thursday that left one dead and more than 150 injured.

The State Department ordered nonessential diplomats and the families of all American personnel at the embassy to leave Serbia after the attack.

The EU warned Serbia that the embassy attacks risked harming efforts to bring the Balkan nation closer to the EU.

NIIT to train engineers for Chinese IT city

hina's upcoming IT city of Wuxi has signed an agreement with India's National Institute of Information Technology (NIIT) for training and creating a pool of software engineers.
A NIIT spokesperson said that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed in the presence of Yang Weize, Party General Secretary of Wuxi and G. Raghavan, President of individual learning solutions at NIIT.

The company had also signed last week another MoU with Wuxi New District with similar objectives for the district.

According to the spokesperson, the IT training firm has also signed an agreement with Wuxi provincial government to set up IT training centres and offer training programmes.

NIIT's Raghavan has been appointed as Chief Consultant for Wuxi city. His main task will be to identify and built IT infrastructure in collaboration with the local government.

Raghavan stated that NIIT had first entered the Chinese technical educational sector a decade back.

The institute currently partners 129 universities and colleges in China.

IT training market in China is expected to grow at 24 per cent a year in the next two years. Going by that trend, there was a need to create about five million software engineers by 2015 in that country, NIIT added.

MUMBAI: He made the hugely popular Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge and the not so brilliant Mohabbatein , soared at the box office with Dhoom and Chak De , and is now all set to direct Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi . But finally, hot-shot film producer and sometime director Aditya Chopra's penchant for romance on the big screen may get a legal entry into his real life this May. Movie mogul Yash Chopra's son is finally on his way to ending his marriage with Payal Khanna and perhaps making a new beginning with current beau, actress Rani Mukherjee. Chopra's films may have a rambling, leisurely feel, but the mutual consent petition he filed a couple of months back is a crisp two-page affair. There's no storyline here. As the law requires, it merely says that the husband and wife have irreconcilable differences and want out. Their married life of five-odd years is headed nowhere, they have told the family court in Bandra. The mandatory six-month cooling-off period required after filing a mutual consent divorce petition will get over this May for the producer. It took three joint meetings with their lawyer for the two to set their divorce process in motion. Their lawyer advised them and they agreed not to mention the terms of settlement in the court documents, opting instead for an out-of-court arrangement. As there are no children involved, heartache is at a minimum. Aditya's family is not too happy with his decision. Family sources say that his parents love their daughter-in-law and would like to take care of her even after the formal split. She has, in any case, been given a spacious home in Juhu and her bank balance has been augmented by several crores. Yash Raj Studios, which has churned out blockbusters and is worth an estimated Rs 1,000 crore, owes its success to the 36-year-old Aditya's brains. The quiet, soft-spoken producer prefers to keep a low profile in the media and his interviews are hard to come by. Aditya's marriage, it is believed, started falling apart about two years ago. In the first half of 2006 he almost moved out of his house, said sources close to the family. Better known as Adi in the film industry, he returned from the outdoor shoot of Karan Johar’s film Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna but instead of going home checked into a five-star hotel. An adamant Adi had insisted then that he would not come home, even as his parents tried to reason with him. He apparently wanted Payal to move out of the house before he returned home. He even allegedly threatened to start his own production house, said industry sources. Payal then decided to move to Singapore for sometime so that Aditya would return home and work. The sprawling and swanky Yash Raj Films studio at Andheri link road with its state-of-the-art set up has apparently been designed by Payal. She had worked relentlessly for years to put up the new YRF studio.

At 17 Radcliff is the youngest actor to be immortalised into a wax figure of his own. The Potter star's model is dressed in a suit and tie but the wizard's trademark spectacles are missing.
The trigger factor for his wax model being put up was Equus, the play in which Daniel Radcliffe starred.
Ben Lovette, the press officer of Madame Tussauds believes that the first time critics in the UK realised Daniel Radcliffe was an acting talent in his own right.
“He'll be looking at other film roles, other stage roles and I think people will identify with him not just one particular film franchise,” he said.

That's why we were so keen to launch Daniel here with his trademark red carpet suit rather than anything else,” added Lovette.
Radcliffe shot to fame with his boy wizard role as the lead in J K Rowling's novel adaptation of the Harry Potter series.
The fifth sequel of the film Harry Potter: The Order of the Phoenix is ready for its European premiere at London's Leicester square and the timing couldn't be better for the model's unveiling on Tuesday.
Radcliffe's waxwork will feature alongside Hollywood biggies such as John Travolta, Samuel L Jackson, in the museum's Blush area.

Washington: Harry Potter stars Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson are dodging rumours that cupid has struck them after they were spotted getting cosy on a secret Valentine's Day date.
According to reports by the Mirror, the young stars were seen while they were visiting the Imperial Arms in Fulham, west London, at 10pm on 14th Feb.
"They arrived quite late at the pub - about 10pm - and sat outside, using each other's bodies for warmth,” Contactmusic quoted a source, as telling Mirror.
It was also revealed that Emma, who was wearing a black top and pashmina, kept looking around "nervously" and at one point cloaked her face with her scarf.
"The pair seemed totally absorbed in one another's company, though - they were chatting and joking easily until just before closing time," said the source.

The couple know each other since seven years, after they first met on the sets of the first instalment of the boy-wizard series— Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone.
While Emma was seen hanging out with Razorlight front man Johnny Borrell recently after a London Fashion Week Vanity Fair/Burberry event, she denied any romantic link-ups saying: "I only met him at that was all".
Radcliffe also recently called it quits with his former-girlfriend and ‘Equus’ co-star Laura O'toole, though they remain friends.

Mumbai: Madhur Bhandarkar and Priyanka Chopra are taking fashion very seriously these days. We caught the actor-director duo at a South Mumbai college attending a fashion show organised by fashion designing students.
At the event the two cleared the air about all the controversies surrounding their upcoming film Fashion.
So is it true that Priyanka insisted that the climax of the film be changed so that her character doesn't appear pregnant in the end as per the original script.
“This is a complete rumour and I don’t even know where it started from. Madhur is with me here and I can say that nothing like that ever happened. We have sat together and discussed the film,” Priyanka said.
While Madhur chipped in saying, “Whenever a film is made the climax is always open to discussion.”

Point taken. But what about all those juicy details about Kangana Ranaut and Priyanka not getting along?
“We all have a blast on the sets. It’s a lot of fun,” Priyanka clarified.

Islamabad: Amid the uncertainty over government formation in Pakistan, the Musharraf regime has revived a 10-year-old corruption case against PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, who is accused of stashing $55 million in kickbacks in Swiss bank accounts.
In a move seen as a pressure tactic against Zardari, whose party won the most seats in Monday's general election, lawyers representing the Pakistan government yesterday urged a Swiss court in Geneva to prosecute him on accusations that he and his wife, slain former premier Benazir Bhutto, took bribes from Swiss cargo inspection companies and hid the money in the Alpine country.
The case stalled last year after Musharraf struck a "reconciliation" deal with Bhutto under which all corruption charges would be dropped, Pakistani media said.
But lawyers argued on Thursday that the charges should proceed inspite of the amnesty deal, saying the Pakistan Supreme Court's decision on the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) was expected "in a few weeks".
Pakistan's Swiss lawyer Dominique said Zardari's name "appears on each page (of the dossier) as the beneficial owner of offshore companies."

Zardari's lawyer, Severio Lembo said "There has been no ruling in 10 years. Why? The answer is simple - because this is all political".
The three-judge bench announced at the end of a 90-minute hearing that it would soon rule on whether to send the case to the prosecutor for trial, or back to a magistrate for more work.

Which is why it's refreshing to meet the cast of Money Hai Toh Honey Hai who openly admit that the only reason most of them came on board for this project, was the opportunity to work with Govinda.
Actress Hansika said "I am very fortunate to have worked with Govinda, I've learnt so much from him, it seemed as if I was in an acting school since five years."
"I always wanted to work with Govinda ji and it was an absolute pleasure working with him in this film," said actor Aftab Shivdasani.
The biggest draw in a cast of relatively younger actors, is not exactly Govinda's presence but his infamous slapping incident on the sets of this very film. The incident has kept Money Hai Toh Honey Hai in the news for some weeks now.
Making light of the incident, even the film's director sportingly accepts the reason people are talking about his film these days.

"Well the reason why Mony Hai Toh Honey Hai has been in news is probably because of the slapping incident," says Ganesh Achariya, the director of the film.
The cast of the film was sporting and gave some really interesting answers when asked— who gets the money and who gets the honey?
"You'll have to watch the movie and find out," said Govinda, While Manoj Vajpai had another interesting take on the subject as he said "Well who ever has the money has the honey."
All of just 16, Hansika said,"It's not about who gets the money or the honey, all the six characters get the money and the honey," While Aftab said, "What is more important is how they get the money and not about who gets the money."
But the best answer came from actress Celeina Jaitely as she said, "Well as the mantra of the life goes I want both the money and the honey."
Talk about having your cake and eating it too.

Mumbai: After Guru, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai will team up again for director Mani Ratnam's next venture. Based on real life characters, the movie will be an intense love story.
This will be Abhishek and Ratnam's third film together. After the terrific partnership they shared during Yuva, which Abhishek describes as his career's first turning point, and Guru, which he acknowledges as his second important film, it doesn't require much calculation to see the creative and commercial viability of the Abhishek-Ratnam pair.
Ratnam will start shooting for the film in September with Abhishek and Aishwarya.
According to a source close to the project, "It's going to be a very intense love story. Guru was more of a biopic with a cavalcade of characters claiming screen space, but this film will focus primarily on the romance. It's a very intense film and Mani's most romantic film to date. Mumbai: Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat will play an ascetic who befriends Jesus of Nazareth in a US film that revolves around a legend that he visited India.
Filmmaker Drew Heriot's The Aquarian Gospel is about Jesus' life between the ages of 13 and 30, a period not documented in the Gospels when legend has it that he travelled through India, Tibet and Persia.
Heriot said Sherawat had been the first choice to play the role of the ascetic in the $15-million film, set for release in 2009.
"After viewing her work, we then saw interviews of her and were extremely impressed by her intelligence and her background," Heriot told Reuters in an e-mail over the weekend.
Sherawat created a stir in her Bollywood debut with 17 kissing scenes in Khwahish. She also played the role of an Indian princess in the Jackie Chan film The Myth.

The actress said it would be a challenge to bring to life her character as a female yogi in The Aquarian Gospel. "I find that in most mythological and spiritual film stories, women seem to be lacking any true wisdom or a sense of humour," Sherawat said in a statement released by her publicist.
"I look forward to bringing both of those qualities to this character." The director said he was going ahead with the film despite knowing it would provoke debate.
"The overall response has been one of intense interest, and we feel that in light of all the recent ancient scriptural discoveries, there is no better time for a film project," Heriot said.

As the excitement to the auction builds up, players were in Mumbai gearing up for the big day. Former Indian captain -- Sourav Ganguly met Shahrukh Khan at the latter's residence to discuss issues related to Kolkata team, owned by the superstar.
Ganguly, one of IPL's icon players will be playing for Kolkata, whose franchise has been bagged by Khan's production house Red Chillies Entertainment. Ganguly and SRK are believed to have deliberated team composition ahead of the big auction of players.

New Delhi: The auctions for the DLF Indian Premier League (IPL) have begun in the ballroom of the Oberoi Hilton in Mumbai.
The Chennai team paid the highest amount for Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the first round. Dhoni was bought for Rs 6 crore ($1.5 million) and he will be joined by Sri Lanka’s spin whiz Muttiah Muralitharan who was bought for Rs 2.4 crore ($600,000).
Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne, who retired from international cricket early last year, was bought by Jaipur at Rs 1.8 crore ($4,50,000) while Adam Gilchrist was bought by Hyderabad for Rs 2.8 crore ($700,000)
Controversial Pakistani pace bowler Shoaib Akhtar will join Shah Rukh Khan’s Kolkata team for Rs 1.82 crore ($455,000). Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene will be joining the Mohali/Chandigarh team for Rs 1.9 crore ($475,000).
In the second round Indian Test skipper Anil Kumble was won by Bangalore for Rs 2 crore ($500,000), off-spinner Harbhajan Singh Rs 3.4 crore while marauding Sri Lankan opener Sanath Jayasuriya will ply his trade for the Mumbai team. The bid for Jayasuriya was Rs 3.9 crore ($975,000).

Trouble never seems to leave Britney Spears as the popstar has been courting one controversy after another. This time she has been seen prompting speculations about whether there is another wedding on the cards especially after the singer was spotted at a bridal boutique.
After lying low on Valentine's Day, Britney Spears resurfaced for another eventful shopping spree at a wedding store in Los Angeles accompanied by her mini entourage and about 45 paparazzi pals. Wearing an animal print top, the troubled pop star browsed dresses at a designer bridal-gown boutique. Interestingly enough, it is said that while shopping Britney may have forgotten to pay for the clothes she changed into and wore out of the store, as she left with a black top over her original outfit.
Curiously, Britney was seen revisiting her 2004 wedding look, where she was spotted in public wearing her old wedding dress -- the one she got married in to her second husband Kevin Frederline. The grand occasion was a visit to a car showroom, with her current boyfriend -- Adnan Ghalib -- for whom she is said to be shopping for a car.
It is not known if the words 'I do' are on Britney's mind, however, from the looks of it, she is definately thinking of dress rehearsals to walk down the aisle for the third time.

Aamir had acknowledged before the release of Taare Zameen Par that he is considering Hirani and Vinod Chopra's offer, provided he likes the final script. His latest post confirms reclusive superstar's plans post Ghajini remake this year. Aamir begins his latest post by spilling the shooting plans, "Ghajini resumes, shooting today on the roads of Bombay." Reportedly, this action thriller has earned the unique distinction of being sold for a whopping Rs 90 crore. Talking about the famed resolutions to his fans, Aamir further writes, "I have managed to stick to no smoking, my workouts have begun again, diet is also getting back slowly though sometimes I break it, and sleeping is still not totally in place though that has seen an improvement too." Khan has been following a strict exercise regimen of three and a half hours and above for six days a week as he wants to get into super shape for the latter half of Ghajini as he shall be bare bodied for most parts. In fact he told his physical trainer Satyajit that he would make such a fantastic body that people will flock the theatres just to see his fine toned physique. Satyajit said, "Whenever you'll see him in the film, you'll say, wow that's Aamir Khan. For last one year he is working really hard. He weighed 84 kgs but now he has lost around 16 kgs. I can't say much but he is looking superb." The perfectionist Khan has built a gym combining two garages within his society and it has cost him an eye-popping Rs 55 lakhs. He did pose for a magazine last month while exercising but he was wearing a full sleeves shirt for he doesn't wish to give away his toned look yet. It seems he has left the grand success of TZP behind and is looking forward to the road ahead. Yet there's some work left on his directorial debut. "As for DVD release of TZP, work on that is progressing but a little slow. Be assured that I am working very hard to come out with the best quality and some really special extras," Aamir writes. The team of the most talked about remake of the year Karzzzz is all set to go Cape Town after having been takenoff to Johannesburg for the shoot of the movie recently!!

The remake "Karzzzz", is being produced by Bhushan Kumar & Krishan Kumar and Directed by Satish Kaushik. The film stars the mega star Himesh Reshammiya, Debutante Shweta Kumar, Raj Babbar, Urmila Matondkar, Gulshan Grover, Danny Denzongpa and Rohini Hatangadi.

The team has an extensive shooting plan till March end. The scenes are being shot at exotic locations in Johannesburg like the Emperors palace, the Lagoon beach etc. Other parts of the film will be shot at Kenya and Mumbai.

Himesh Reshammiya plays the role of Rishi Kapoor in the remake and also scores a hat trick by acting, singing and composing the music for the film.

T-Series has bought the remake rights from Mukta Arts for the original film 'Karz' directed by Subhash Ghai. The original film had a cast of Rishi Kapoor, Tina Munim, Premnath amongst others and was a blockbuster of the 80's.

Before they headed to Johannesburg there was a puja at the premises at the T-Series office to introduce the entire cast. The event saw the presence of the original creator Subhash Ghai and the evergreen Rishi Kapoor himself, who shared their fond memories of the film and expressed their heartiest wishes to the present crew to make it an even bigger success. After scorching Bollywood with her role of Geet in Jab We Met, Kareena Kapoor is now setting her sights on Hollywood. And from what we hear that big break in the West is not very far for Bebo.

Reports have it that Kareena is recently being approached by couple of Hollywood biggies and the actress will be having some meetings with big production houses in the West soon.

“Kareena will be heading to LA very soon to film for Sajid Nadiadwala’s Kambhakht Ishq. That film is going to be shot entirely in the US and will feature some Hollywood stars but it seems some of the big wigs in Hollywood saw Bebo’s rushes and pictures and have been completely wowed by the actress,” says a source. The source adds that the actress is not looking at any small budgeted films either. “She is going to be in Los Angeles in May to shoot for Kambakth Ishq. She has been offered two top line Hollywood projects and she will be listening to the scripts. A hush hush meeting has already been planned in May when she is there to finalize the detail,” says the source. Kareena seems to be the latest Bollywood actress who hopes to make a foray into Hollywood after the likes of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Bipasha Basu, Celina Jaitley and Koena Mitra. Let’s just hope her run is a bit more successful than any of these leading ladies!

'Is US testing anti-satellite missile?'

Just a week after the US announced that it would use a missile to shoot down an out of control spy satellite hurtling towards earth, Russia has accused the US of using a plan to shoot down a broken spy satellite as a cover for testing an anti-satellite weapon.
A statement by the Russian Defence ministry said:"Speculations about the danger of the satellite hide preparations for the classical testing of an anti-satellite weapon. Such testing essentially means the creation of a new type of strategic weapons. The US plans to test its anti-missile defence system's capability to destroy other countries' satellites."
The Russian defence ministry argued that various countries' spacecraft had crashed to Earth in the past, and many countries used toxic fuel in spacecraft, but this had never before merited such "extraordinary measures".
The US says that the satellite lost power and communications shortly after it was launched in December 2006 and is now uncontrollable.
The modus operandi to be adopted by the US to shoot down the out of control spy satellite is as follows:
-- Three modified SM-3 missiles have already been dispatched on board Aegis ships somewhere in the Pacific Ocean.
-- The ships would fire a missile, intercepting the satellite just above the atmosphere. That way, they have more control over the falling debris.
-- Once the satellite is hit, officials hope 50 percent of the debris will come to Earth in the first two orbits and the rest will fall later.

Pak police claims to hold evidence against Taliban commander -- Mehsud for killing Bhutto

The day when Pakistan braces itself for polls, the Pak police have said that the Taliban commander -- Baitullah Mehsud -- was the mastermind behing Benazir Bhutto's assasination.
The Pakistan Police have also claimed that they hold 'solid evidence' against the commander. The head of the Pakistani police team probing Benazir Bhutto's assassination, has accused Baitullah Mehsud for orchestrating and financing her killing. Pak police said that they have arrested five people in connection with the assasination and they have revealed that Mehsud approved the plan to kill Benazir.
Police said that the suicide bomber killed who killed Bhutto, after an election rally in Rawalpindi in December 2007, last met Mehsud few weeks before the attack. Pakistan police have also divulged that Mehsud -- the Chief of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, based in South Waziristan -- had given Rs 4,00,000 to a cleric named Qari Ismail, who is believed to have sent five militants to Rawalpindi to kill Bhutto. According to the pak police, the militants planned to target Bhutto in various cities until they finally succeeded in killing her.

To make a historical romance, even with saleable stars like Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in today’s day and age is a pretty tall order. And the all important question is: does Jodhaa Akbar deliver?We’ll come to that…but first we have to give you a backgrounder: The film traces Akbar’s life from the tender age of 13 to the time he assumes the all-encompassing command of India as Mughal emperor Jalaluddin Mohammed Akbar. Set in the 16th century when he was right in the middle of strengthening his rule, Akbar’s marriage to Rajput princess Jodhaa is a political move.How it transforms into a gentle love story…between two very strong individuals thrown together by circumstances is the crux on which Gowarikar’s plot hinges.And there in lies the dilemma. Jodhaa Akbar is not a pure love story. It is as much the story of Akbar coming into his own, as it is a romance…and the love story forms the back drop for the many plots, sub plots and intricacies of the Mughal court to unfold.When you watch Jodhaa Akbar, you immediately digest why many directors, are not even capable of imagining a canvas this big. Considering director Ashutosh Gowarikar went through mammoth problems to film his version of an epic romance set in the Mughal era, a period recreated with painstaking detail and research -- this very task is commendable.You only wish there was more to the Jodhaa Akbar love story than what the film is able to squeeze in. There is also no scale of comparison to indicate Jodhaa’s stature in Akbar’s life with regards to his other wives & concubines.Every chapter in Akbar’s early life is laid out imaginatively and in greater detail than Jodhaa’s and so it’s natural that Hrithik Roshan has the meatier part. And not for a moment does he disappoint. Watch him come completely into his own…even in a role that he is obviously far removed from. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as the reticent, yet defiant Jodhaa is pleasing and pitches in a decent performance.A special mention for Kiran Deohans’ magnificent cinematography and A R Rehman’s compelling music score. At three hours twenty minutes running time, Jodhaa Akbar is a little too long, but makes up for the length with its sheer body and feel. Go watch it for Hrithik’s paisa vasool performance.So the TIMES NOW VERDICT for this one is undoubtedly, three stars

"Rigged polls will lead to war"

Bhutto's widowed husband and PPP Co-Chairman -- Asif Ali Zardari -- has issued a chilling warning to President Pervez Musharraf and his government. Speaking categorically on the probability of polls being rigged in Pakistan, Zardari said that Pakistan will face massive violence, which could lead to its break-up, if the government of President Pervez Musharraf carries out alleged plans to rig and disrupt elections scheduled to held on Monday (February 18, 2008).
"Up till now, I've shown absolute patience. My wife (former PM Benazir Bhutto) has been killed, yet I've calmed people down, stopped them from protesting. I've called no strike. But I'm telling you, people are absolutely on the warpath. If the elections are rigged, the situation will go out of my hands. We'll have no choice but to take it to the streets," said Asif Al Zardari, Co-chairman, PPP.
Musharraf issues warning
Meanwhile, in a related development, just ahead of the all important general elections in Pakistan, President Pervez Musharraf issued a stern warning to the opposition parties on Sunday (Feb 17, 2008) and took to preaching the virtues of a fair play to all contestants. Media reports quote him as saying,” Accept the result of Monday's elections and not resort to agitation if it goes against them."
The opposition parties have reportedly upped the ante ahead of the crucial polls following the reports of massive rigging doing the rounds. However, on Monday (February 18), the Pakistan President Musharraf will face his litmus test and the world will watch closely to see if he can keep his promise of making a smooth transition to democracy.
Mush promises free and fair elections
Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has vowed to go ahead with tomorrow's key general elections, keenly watched by the world, despite a fresh wave of violence while the Opposition warned the dictator, whose fate hung in balance, of massive street protests if the vote is rigged.
"Any effort to derail the democratic process or the holding of elections will be foiled," Musharraf said as a violence-marred campaign which was overshadowed by the assassination of Pakistan People's Party leader Benazir Bhutto, ended on a bloody note with two suicide attacks last night that left 50 dead and 100 injured.
Analysts pointed out that Pakistan's problems might not end soon as the polls are widely expected to throw up a hung Parliament. Anti-Musharraf parties, who have threatened to impeach the dictator once they are in power, are jointly expected to sweep the election. A large number of international observers will monitor the polls touted as "mother of all elections" by Musharraf, who grabbed power in a 1999 bloodless military coup.
"Election will be held on 18th. People should stop speculations.... despite all rumours and insinuations these elections will be free, fair and transparent and peaceful," Musharraf said.
But opposition parties said that the polls, which were earlier fixed for Jan 8 but were put off following Bhutto's killing, could not be free and fair with Musharraf at the helm.
Stakes are high for Musharraf
For Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf, the stakes are high as the election results will decide his fate. The Pak President has enough reason to be worried as the party he has propped up -- the PML Q -- led by Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain, is on shaky ground vis-a-vis the opposition. The PPP's stand-in chief -- Asif Ali Zardari and Nawaz Sharif of the PML (N) -- are in talks and could stitch-up a post poll pact that could prove ruinous for the PML(Q).
The top leadership of the PML (Q) has taken its rival head-on. Commenting on the rivals, Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, PML-Q leader reiterated:"What have Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif done? PPP got elected twice but were dismissed for corruption."
However, Asif Ali Zardari and Nawaz Sharif, are not bogged down by PML-Q leader's warning, rather, they are more concerned about whether Musharraf is going to rig the elections or not.If the latest opinion surveys are to be believed, the opposition parties led by Asif Ali Zardari and Nawaz Sharif, have a clear lead over the King's party.

Edgy Pak goes to the polls

It is the day of reckoning in Pakistan, as the country finally went to polls -- An election most eagerly watched by the world and India. Over 81 million people are eligible to vote in Pakistan's four provinces and seven restive tribal agencies bordering Afghanistan.
Voters will choose 342 members of the National Assembly or Lower House of Parliament and 728 members of Provincial Assemblies. The government has deployed 81,000 troops and nearly 400,000 policemen to ensure security for the polls and President Pervez Musharraf has warned that there will be "zero tolerance" for attempts to disrupt the elections or to organise protests after the results are announced.
The counting of votes will begin by Monday (feb 18) evening and results are expected on Tuesday (Feb 19). The general election is crucial for all the key players, including Musharraf, PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and former premier and PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif.
Musharraf faces the possibility of impeachment, if the opposition unites to secure a two-thirds majority in the National Assembly. He will then have to bank on the PML-Q, the party which has backed him since 2002, to do well in the polls and to be part of any future coalition.
PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, would aim to to cobble together a coalition to stave off the threat posed to him by the possibility of withdrawal of the National Reconciliation Ordinance, by a law that was passed by Musharraf last year to drop corruption charges against him and Benazir Bhutto.'Prestige at stake'
No one is waiting as eagerly for election day in Pakistan as Pervez Musharraf. Not only are the stakes high for Pakistan but the results could well decide his fate. President Musharraf said, "Presitge is at stake. Peace and harmony is at stake and our future is at stake."
Even though Musharraf has guaranteed free and fair polls, he has already endorsed PML(Q) -- the King's party led by Chaudhury Shujaat Hussain. In fact if anyone can upset his prediction, it is these two men -- Asif Ali Zardari, Benazir's widower and co-chariman of PPP and the supremo of the PML(N) -- Nawaz Sharif.
The two leaders have decided on a pre and post-poll left arrangement, infact, Zardari also issued a dire warning on Sunday (Feb 17). He said that there are forces in the region which can balconise the region. People have asked Zardari that what does he mean by balconisation - where is the force? The force is the vaccumm that will be created if democratic forces balconise the region.
Musharraf does not seem to take Zardari's point lightly, given the fact that if Nawaz & Zardari do come together they will pull the rug from under his feet.However, Musharraf's loyalists, perhaps in a show of bravado more than anything else, have dismissed this possibility.
As the real fear of violence and electoral fraud hangs over polling the nation on the day of polls, there are some voices that have called on the people to boycott the elections. Imran Khan said, "The reason we want the election to be boycotted is because this election will legitimise Musharraf's unconstitutional PCO which has destroyed our justice system."

The Elections, which were postponed from January 8, followed a violence-marred campaign overshadowed by the assassination of PPP leader -- Benazir Bhutto, a campaign that ended with two suicide attacks on Sunday (Feb 17) that left 50 dead and 100 injured.

Beverly: Do you describe yourself as modern and contemporary with a lot of heritage right behind?
Saif: I suppose I have more so to thank the families for the interest they have shown in me and I think more than being a successful actor they have seen more of the family heritage in me.
Beverly: Talking about heritage, What kind of heritage would you like to pass on to your kids?
Saif: I would like to pass on the importance of working hard and the importance of being self sufficient. Alongside I would like them to be humble and know the value of money. I would also pass on the lesson of how to live life with other people around you and not being spoilt.
Beverly: There are rumours about Deepika Padukone signed for your production company. Can you tell us a bit more about the company?
Saif: When we are ready to launch, we will call the media and have a proper release. A little bit of information about the company from here and there will not be constructive.
Beverly: You have received too much attention offlate. How do you deal with the same and Do u have anything to say to the media?
Saif: I do not have much to say to the media. It is just that the people should not think that I get excited seeing myself in the paper everyday. It is almost an overkill, where you get fedup of seeing yourself daily and wonder if others are fedup as well.
Beverly: How does your family deal with all this attention?

Darsheel's performance as a dyslexic child in Taare Zameen Par has been lauded by several luminaries including LK Advani. Overjoyed by her son's nomination, Darsheel's mother said,"I am happy that he has been nominated in Best Actor category and not in Best Child Actor. His nomination itself is good enough for us."
Darsheel Safary had no limits on his happiness and ecstatically said,"I am a superstar." Reports of film director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant tying the knot next month (March, 2008) gets Bollywood talking

Well it looks like it's time for wedding bells for the reclusive director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, with reports of his impending marriage with Bollywood choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant slated for the end of next month (March, 2008).
As the rumours are doing the round, Vaibhavi Merchant and Sanjay Leela Bhanslai may soon tie the knot. The two have already worked together on several projects that include Bhansali's 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam',
'Devdas and 'Saawariya'. But going by the industry buzz, the romance between the two blossomed during the making of 'Saawariya'.
The marriage is slated for the last week of March after the Sanjay is back from Paris, where he is working on a musical venture named 'Padmavati'. Vaibhavi is immensely close to Bhansali's family, which was obvious at the premiere of 'Saawariya' last year.

Sanjay-Manyata marriage illegal?

Within a week of actor Sanjay Dutt making his marriage public, the Goa government has temporarily stayed its registration. The move comes close on the heels of the senior administrative officer of Margaon district suspending the residence certificate given to Manyata. Authorities in Goa had ordered an inquiry into the marriage registration process after it came to light that Manyata had managed to get a residence certificate without living in the state. The south Goa collector GP Naik had earlier alleged that the certificate did not have the signature of the senior official issuing it. Manyata had obtained the certificate from the office of a sub-ordinate officer in south Goa saying she has been a resident in Salcete Taluka for six months. The officer has been suspended after the collector asked the Mamlatdar to conduct an inquiry. Meanwhile, Sanjay Dutt's Manager has come to the defence of the actor saying that, ' Sanjay Dutt is being made a scapegoat. There are so many foreigners who get married in Goa everyday.' TIMES NOW approached Sanjay's daughter Trishala for her take on the marriage being declared illegal, she chose to stay away from commenting.

Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly has had a dream comeback to internatioanl cricket but just when he was in top form, Ganguly was dropped from the ODI squad. Sourav Ganguly opens his heart out to TIMES NOW Editor-In-Chief Arnab Goswami, on his disappointment at being left out from the ODIs.

Arnab: Why aren't you playing against Australia?
Sourav: I think, the selectors will have a better idea. But all I can say, it's not on the basis of form, which is in my control. I can only get the runs, the rest is not in my hands.
Arnab: What was your reaction when you heard you were dropped?
Sourav: I was a bit surprised because I didn't expect it. As in both forms of the game whether it be in Test or One-day, I scored nearly 2500 runs in one year. I was a bit surprised but that's the way it is.
Arnab: What did you tell them?
Sourav: They just asked me whether I wanted to continue playing One-day cricket. I said, 'Yes, at least for the next 7-8 months'. Since there's not much of One-day cricket in this year, and the rest of the year is full of Test cricket. So I wanted to play till September (2008), and then take a call because at some stage, we wouldn't have gone on to play the 2011 World Cup.
Arnab: Didn't you discuss it with anyone?
Sourav: No.
Arnab: Over the last two to three years, more has been written about Sourav Ganguly's off-field activities, his lobbies, the people favouring him and so on. How do you react to all this?
Sourav: It's all very irritating. I need to be treated as a player and that's every player's right. To be honest since 2005, after I got dropped and I lost my captaincy, lot of things have been other than cricket which is not required for anybody whether it's me (I've played for 12-13 years) or a newcomer. These things are not required and it doesn't happen anywhere else in the world. I need to be judged on my cricket.

Chinese-born actor held for shoplifting

Chinese actor Bai Ling has been arrested at Los Angeles International Airport, and police accuse her of shoplifting two celebrity magazines and two packets of batteries from a shop there.Sgt Jim Holcomb said Ling was taken into custody on Wednesday. He said the items in question had a total value of $16. The 41-year-old actor was detained by a store employee who summoned police. She was booked for investigation of misdemeanor shoplifting and released after agreeing to appear in court on March 5. An e-mail message sent to Ling's agent yesterday was not immediately returned. Ling has appeared in such films as The Crow and Anna and the King and in the television series Lost. The day of her arrest, she posted a message on her blog with a photo of herself at the airport waiting for a delayed flight. She made no mention of her arrest, instead wondering whether people were "rushing in the cold wind to work" after the Chinese New Year.

No Jodhaa Akbar in Rajasthan

Ashutosh Gowarikar's ambitious historical Jodhaa Akbar has not released in Rajasthan after protests by some Rajput groups led by the Karni Sena. They say Jodha was not Akbar's but his son Jehangir's wife. Rajputs allege that the film had distorted history and had demanded a ban on the film. Given the fear that the protests may get ugly all theatre owners in Jaipur have decided not to screen Jodhaa Akbar.So, while the whole country will be able to watch the Aishwarya-Hritik starrer, ironically people in Jodha 's native city will be denied a chance to see Gowarikar's version of the crucial alliance between a Rajput princess and a Mughal ruler."The movie should be released in Jaipur. Politics should not affect films and these protests are done to gain political mileage," said a moviegoer.Some NRI groups have also planned a boycott and that's not all a few multiplexes have still to reach a verdict on whether they will even screen the film. So, for the emperor and his queen, the real battle is still to be waged- at the box office. The toughest field to conquer.
